So Amped I Camped

:D  Post titles don't get much cornier than that.  You're welcome.

Anyway, I’m excited to say that for the first time in my life, I have a “usual” camping spot.

It’s a legit campground though.  No going off-trail for me yet.  At least not with a group of 17, as was the case last camp trip.

Cave Mountain Lake is a tiny campground nestled up in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest in Natural Bridge Station (so not too far from Natural Bridge State Park).  It’s near so many beautiful hiking trails with so many great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we can’t go wrong.  Even if we don’t actually go hiking, as was the case once again last trip.

My first trip to Cave Mountain Lake was in October of last year (2014) with about 8-10 people.  Then the second trip was in April 2015 with about 10-12 people.  Then this last trip on October 23rd just got crazy with about 17 people making the trip.  Each time we manage to get the same plot (I don’t imagine there’s a lot of competition) with three (and a half) different sections for setting up tents, one half section with a picnic table and water spigot, and then another section with many picnic tables, grilles, and a big stone firepit.
We went hiking the first two trips, although I can’t remember the name of the trails or lookouts.  This last trip, everyone was too tired so we did a little nature walk down to the lake but otherwise just stuck to the campsite and our games (cornhole, stick cup, archery/pellet gun shooting range).

Here are some highlights from some of the trips up to Cave Mountain Lake.  If you like what you see and want to plan a trip, check out the website here or here for more details and contact info.

Fall Trip, October 17th, 2014
(Another great perk:  breweries!  So many nearby.  Here's Blue Mountain Brewery)
(As well as Natural Bridge! And this is all before we even got to our campsite)
(All set up next to my favorite creepy ass lake and abandoned shed)

Spring Trip, May 1st, 2015

(Particularly gorgeous sunset drive out there this time)
 (Not even planned. Seriously)
"Bye again!"
Sculpture garden in someone's front yard :D

Fall Trip, October 23rd, 2015
And then it was time to go....in style ;)
Until next year, Cave Mountain Lake <3
