4th Annual Bootlegger's Ball

This year, the 4th annual RVA Bootlegger's Ball took place on February 28th at the Bull and Bear Club (for the 2nd year in a row) on the 21st floor of the James Center at 901 E. Cary Street.  Hosted by Jack Lauterback and Kelli Lemon, this was my 2nd time attending.  And if you read my post about my first experience, let me just say this one was MUCH different and way more fun.

I loved everything about it.  The food, the drinks (last year they didn't have rum at all, or Red Bull at the time I was asking for it...lame), the people, the venue (of course), the music (including the Trongone Band my favorite crooner, Piano Mike) and everything else that went along with that night.

More to come, buuuuut for now....

Valentine's Day Dinner and a Concert

Yeah...this is how much I've been REALLY meaning to post.

This Valentine's Day, I'm not sure if I was on a date exactly, but it was definitely a fun time.  After going to the grand opening of Garden Grove Brewery (see post below), I was picked up from Carytown and whisked away to the center(ish) of the city to the restaurant Comfort at __ . Broad Street.  It's one of my personal favorites, mostly because the name couldn't be more fitting for their menu.  All the good comfort foods!  Made excellently and deliciously!
And after being gorgeous all day, there was this random snow storm which turned into crappy rain....but it was actually just pretty funny, versus just awful.

Then it was time for the main event:  The New Pornographers at The National.  I had never heard of them, but I liked their stuff and it was still a really entertaining show.

Allow me to elaborate on all this later, but for now....

Carytown's New Brewery is Neat-o

Back in February (Valentine's Day actually) I went to the grand opening of Garden Grove, right at the beginning of Carytown at 3445 W. Cary Street.  It was pretty darn cool.

Besides having some good beer (and some not as good, IMO) they also have one of the coolest interior decorating jobs I've seen at a brewery yet.  I loved all the artwork.  It really stood out to me more than anything for some reason....well, besides the cool barrel tables.

It was packed that day, too....as in, "I can't believe we found a place to sit otherwise we were going to leave" packed.  But after we owned our spot, it was a really good time with some high percentage beers :)

You should definitely check them out - I'm sure they're not nearly as crowded most days anymore.
The drunker I got, the more I was into this set up...and maybe I was out of products and took some.

Fear of Music: A Talking Heads Tribute

On November 26th (2014...FYI duh) Richmond's own Talking Heads tribute band, Fear of Music, put on a show at The Broadberry at 2729 W. Broad Street.  They were awesome.  These guys look and sound the part.  If you're a Talking Heads fan, this is a can't-miss...a must-see...a do-this-or-you're-making-a-mistake, if you will :)

I decided to keep it low key and hang out in the VIP lounge area on the right side of the venue.  Couches and tables are my friends.  And there was still room to dance!  Here are some highlights from that night.
He really was enjoying the show. I swear.
